Sumac is a spice produced from the berries of a bushy shrub of the anacardiaceae family (such as pink berries or pistachio trees), rhus coriara. It grows in warm climates, especially in the Middle East, southern Italy and Sicily. Little used in Europe, sumac is a spice that symbolizes the cuisine of the Middle Eastern world.
